Where is The Catskills Mountain House located?

We are located in Prattsville, NY, in the Great Northern Catskills region. The nearest towns are Windham (~20 min), Tannersville (~25 min), and Hunter (~30 min). New York City is approximately 2.5–3 hours away depending on traffic.

Why book direct with us?

When you book direct you pay less with no third-party booking fees. Booking direct gives you additional benefits like priority check-in, welcome snacks on arrival and you get first dibs on special offers.

What is the check-in and check-out time?

Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available depending on the schedule. Please message us in advance to ask.

Do you have a minimum night stay?

During the week, we offer 1-night stays, weekends our minimum stay is 2 nights and on holidays a 3-night minimum. We like our guests to fully enjoy their time here and feel 3+ nights is ideal!

How does check-in work? Do we need to go somewhere to get keys?

You won't need to go anywhere to pick up or drop off keys. 24 hours before your check-in and you will receive your keyless entry code. Just arrive at the house, and use the code provided, which will be active for the duration of your stay. Where can we get driving directions, house details, access info, wi-fi, etc., to help us plan our trip?

Is the hot tub available year-round?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The hot tub is maintained at 102°F and is available year-round. Robes are provided. Please shower before entering, replace the insulating cover after each use, and follow all posted safety guidelines.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at this property. This is a firm policy due to allergies and the condition of the furnishings.

Do you allow smoking in the house?

There is NO SMOKING or VAPING of any kind inside our house. If we find that you have smoked in the house, there will be a minimum $500 fine charged.

How many guests can stay?

The cabin accommodates up to 6 guests. The sleeping arrangement is: 1 queen bed in the main bedroom, plus 2 full/double beds in the two loft areas. All guests must be listed at booking.

Is there a minimum age to book?

The primary guest must be 25 years of age or older to make a reservation.

Is there WiFi and cell service?

Yes, we have reliable WiFi. Cell service is typically pretty strong but may vary by carrier. If you need strong connectivity for work, we recommend bringing a backup mobile hotspot just in case.

What is included in the kitchen?

The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, wood burning stove, toaster oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, cookware, and utensils. Basic pantry staples (oil, salt, pepper, coffee, tea and spices) are provided. We also have a propane grill on the back deck.

How far is the creek?

The Schoharie Creek is approximately a 10-minute walk from the cabin. Always check water levels and do not enter during or after heavy rain.

Where is the nearest grocery store?

Jim’s Great American convenience store in Prattsville is the closest stop for basics.Price Chopper in Windham is the closest full-service grocery store, about 20 minutes away. Hannaford in Catskill (~45 min) has a larger selection.

Are there bears or other wildlife?

Yes! You’re staying in the Catskills, so wildlife is part of the experience. You may spot deer, wild turkeys, foxes, and occasionally black bears around the property or surrounding area.Please enjoy wildlife from a safe distance and never approach or feed any animals. It is extremely important that all garbage cans remain tightly closed and secured at all times. Bears have an incredible sense of smell, and food, garbage, coolers, or even empty food containers left outside can attract them to the property.Please place all trash inside the designated garbage cans and make sure the lids are completely closed and secured after every use. Never leave bags of garbage, food, coolers, or other scented items outside overnight.If you do happen to see a bear, give it plenty of space, stay calm, and observe from a safe distance. Seeing wildlife can be one of the really special parts of staying in the mountains, but we want to keep both our guests and our local wildlife safe.

Yes, there is a private driveway with space for multiple vehicles.

What happens if something is broken or there is an issue?

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made 30 or more days before arrival receive a full refund minus a $100 booking fee. Cancellations within 30 days of arrival are non-refundable. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.

What if there is a natural disaster, sickness, inclement weather, or unforeseen circumstance that affects our stay?

Although we do everything possible to make your stay as pleasant and carefree as possible, we cannot control or be responsible for the weather or any other unforeseen circumstances or sicknesses that may affect your stay. There are no refunds for natural disasters or other major events that are out of our control. We highly encourage you to purchase trip insurance to cover your stay in case of a natural disaster or other major event. Depending on the type of trip insurance you purchase, you are usually eligible to be reimbursed by the insurance company for the amount that we do not refund.
